Have you ever been behind that driver that is always
going about 5-10 miles per hour below the speed limit? This is the same driver that slows at every intersection to see if they should turn there, or not? I have. And we all probably say the same thing: "Does this person even know what they’re doing or where they’re going?" That’s exactly what I’ve felt like I’ve been doing over the past few weeks. Time to focus! I need a personal vision statement – some sort of written vision to keep myself grounded, at least for a few months. A lot has happened in the past year – lots of growth. I’m surprised I haven’t lost all control over my direction (…or maybe I have). As a matter of fact I’ve been able to accomplish quite a bit in the last 12 months without having a clear vision or mission – or maybe I have had one, just not articulated in writing. I can only imagine if I had one! OK, so let’s do this! But where do I start? I know there are places out there where I can get templates, ‘how-to’ steps, and inquiring questions that will help me brainstorm the key ideas around creating a vision. I’m not sure I want to do it that way - seems too easy. This is something I really need to squeeze through my mind and soul. I don’t want it to be easy; simple yes, but not easy because it’s easy to forget something that was too easy. What do I want to accomplish through developing this vision? I want to define and connect emotionally with my core values. I want to better understand and define my role in the relationship with my wife and two boys as those relationships grow. I want to re-establish my identity as an athlete, a coach, and a role model. I want to identify my mentors and the role models in all areas of my life. I want to build my intellectual and instinctive skillset and learn best when to trust and put each to in the driver’s seat. I’m sure I’ll discover more. Time to get to it! Stay tuned as I share what I come up with as I go through this process.

This part of my blog site will be all about sharing
thoughts and musings as they come to my mind. Posts will be irregular, but shorter and much more about my perspective on my experiences and interactions - like a journal, so to speak. I hope to incorporate some take-aways from each post that I’ve pulled out of these experiences. Now, not everything needs to be a learning experience that develops into a list of 4, 5 or 10 steps to take to do or achieve something – some might – but that’s not my intention. So come back frequently and check out what’s happening in my mind – spooky, I know! Enjoy the day! |
